About

the artist

My name is Shannon, and I am an artist. I use visual language as my way of communicating ideas that are important to me. Sometimes these images create a narrative for the viewer; other times, the composition captures a moment. I make art because I enjoy exploring color, composition, the process of making, and the challenge of expressing my ideas visually.

I am inspired by the rich history of women in arts and crafts who design and paint patterns, weave fabrics, make clothes, cross-stitch, appliqué, and quilt. I developed my technique by combining painted and printed canvases with sewing lines to celebrate this history. I incorporate flowers and weed imagery into my work, symbolizing woman’s strength and resilience. I love animals; slowly, animals found their way into my work, too.

I received my Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Kendall College of Art and Design (2008) and a Bachelor of Arts in both Studio Art and Anthropology from Centre College (1998). I am a juried member of the Studio Art Quilt Association.

My work is exhibited regularly and held in many private and public collections.
